Seven names in the credits. That blows my mind.

We've only gotten better, but still! I wonder how huge WiiU's dev team will be for the next Zelda. Hopefully, they can hire someone who will force the team to show some restraint when it comes to the annoying quirks Zelda has developed over the years. Ie, the ever-growing tutorial and heavy dialogue.

I would like too see you to do one of these for Skyward Sword, just to highlight how monumentally the series has changed in 25 years. It's something I'd enjoy seeing for a lot of old franchises, actually.

<em>"Fortunately, the Magic Whistle has a trick: Blow it while facing east and it will whisk you progressively to each dungeon entrance. Blow it while facing west and you’ll cycle through the dungeons in reverse order. So to get from Level-9 to Level-8, face left, use the flute, and hey presto."</em>

...

*kills self*

Also: I have to agree on MetManMas's assertion. So far, it's something I'm rather enjoying in Paper Mario: Sticker Star.

I don't know how I managed it, but the first few times I played LoZ I managed to not get the red ring in the first quest. I always found it in the second quest, and for a while I thought it was exclusive to the second quest!

I also had no idea there was a method to the whistle warp. I always thought it was random. I guess I wasn't a very perceptive kid!

Level 9 is chaos in design. Not just because of the enemies within, but how dungeon has a billion staircases connecting who-knows-where all over the place.

Still, I got to give credit for the original Zelda leaving the player to their own designs for the most part. There's (cryptic) hints for some bits of progression if you go looking for them, but the game largely trusts the player to figure things out their own damn selves. No fairies or robots chiming in.

My favorite Zelda by far is still Link to the Past, largely because I feel it struck just the right balance between exploration and intel without being too obtuse or too hand holdy. You always have markers telling you where you should go on the map, but you're free to explore, find goodies you won't need until much later in the game, if at all. You don't need it until the next to last dungeon, but you can get the ice rod as soon as you get out on the world map and find some bombs, and there's no bomb bag required to get them. The tons of new items and places the flippers and titan's mitt open up for you feel almost game breaking...and speaking of game breaking, if you know where to use the hammer you can go and tackle the fourth Dark World dungeon after the first one then sequence break the crap out of the intended dungeon order.

Anyway, this has been a great series on Zelda. Be sure to touch on how big a dick the old man is in Quest 2!

Is it just me, or was the final level in the 2nd Quest a cake walk compared to this? I distinctly remember dying countless times in the final dungeon of the 1st quest and after having suffered through the amped up difficulty of the 2nd quest, feeling a little let down to beat the final level the first time through without even using a potion and being 1 heart container short of a full compelment. Not only that, but to this day I still cannot for the life of me find the damned red ring in the 1st quest. I dunno, I also have always found the original Kid Icarus incredibly easy and beat it multiple times a full 6 months before Nintendo Power published the "first" player to beat Kid Icarus.
